I am a student at the University of South Alabama and I am enrolled in EDM310. Every week we are assigned a teacher and we are asked to read their blog and leave a comment and then post a summary on our newly created blogs. I looked at your current blog and reviewed some previous ones to get an idea of what you are trying to state. I believe, in my opinion, that you are trying to stay in the realm of less multimedia and more mainstream education, as far as tools in the classroom are concerned. I understand the benefit of more paper and pencil resources being utilized in the classroom, instead of outrageously priced accessories. As we move forward with a green classroom and a bigger digital footprint students will be looking at these new tools as every day devices. Pencils are cheap and they will always be the least expensive avenue, but it may not procure the best adaptive technology learning experience for that student in future endeavors. I want to be a teacher and I started my program with the taste of chalk in my mouth and the smell of paper and pencil on my mind. As I have been introduced to new ways of teaching students through multimedia I am seeing the benefits of the investment. I do agree, with the individualization that comes from writing with your own creative tool, but just as the pencil and paper replaced the chalk and chalkboard, so will the keyboard and tablet replace the pencil and paper. So, we need to arm ourselves (teachers) with the knowledge on how to use them appropriately. So, we can teach our students how to use them appropriately.
Mr. Spencer, I thought the picture was a good idea but I am not sure what is the metaphor? Both pencils are of the better choice and Ticonderoga are more expensive but are of a great quality. Papermate is the most reasonable pencil for the price and the quality. Although this picture is about pencils I am not so sure that's the message. According to all your other pencil posts they have a different message linked to them. Technology was the main message in the last post I read so I was wondering if this was along the same line. Pencils are still a necessity in the classroom, but educators need to also add in technology and different ways of learning. In conclusion, I would like to think the picture is maybe trying to say pc vs. mac, but I may be thinking through it to hard.

Mr. Spencer, I feel as though you are saying that one can either choose the less expensive lower quality pencil and get the same amount of work done or have the more expensive better quality pencil and have less of a hassle with it in the process. Maybe it's a convenience thing? Or the hype of something "better" versus something that is doable or suitable for the assignment at hand.
I really want to appreciate the way to write this article. It seems that you are very professional and intelligent on the above topics of writing. I enjoyed reading your article very much Sattaking sattaKing
